are also a multitude of formulas used for making permutations that can
be quite complex and perplexing to the layman. One of the simplest
formulas in existence and popular among novice practitioners is derived
from the trigrams or Kua of the Luo Shu. Each of the Kua is associated
with an element and a compass direction.
How to determine your Personal Kua
Based on the date of birth of a person, a simple calculation can be made
to ascertain which Kua he or she belonged to. The Kua will then becomes
the person's innate Kua or Personal Kua along with the intrinsic element
associated with it. With this information, the person can find out the
auspicious and inauspicious compass directions with the aim of
harmonising the energies or Qi in the person's living space.
The calculation is based on the following method:-
FOR MALES
Add up the last 2 digits of the year of birth and reduce it to a single digit
and deduct it from 10. However, the cut off point for determining the year of
birth is Feb 4th. If your birth is before the cut off point, deduct 1 from it.
Example:
Year of Birth
1961
6+ 1 = 7 (if you are born before Feb 5th, deduct 1 from 7 i.e. 7 -1 = 6)*
10 - 7 = 3 (if you are born before Feb 5th, the computation is 10 - 6 = 4)*
If your are born after Feb 4 in 1961, your Personal Kua is therefore 3
*If you are born before Feb 5 in 1961, your Personal Kua is therefore 4
If the above final calculation resulted in a number 5, your Personal Kua is
automatically taken as 2.
FOR FEMALES
Add up the last 2 digits of the year of birth and reduce it to a single digit
and add 5 to it. However, the cut off point for determining the year of birth
is Feb 4th. If your birth is before the cut off point, deduct 1 from it.
Example:
Year of birth
1976
7+ 6 = 13(if you are born before Feb 5th, deduct 1 from 13 i.e. 13 -1 = 12)**
1+3 = 4 (if you are born before Feb 5th, the computation is 1 + 2 = 3)**
4 + 5 = 9 (if you are born before Feb 5th, the computation is 3 + 5 = 8)**
If you are born after Feb 4 in 1976, your Personal Kua is therefore 9
**If you are born before Feb 5 in 1976, your Personal Kua is therefore 8
If the above final calculation resulted in a number 5, your Personal Kua is
automatically taken as 8.
Note: - The cut off point is Feb 4th because the Chinese solar calendar
starts on or about 4th of February.
